These take place of the thin weak 2 washers that go between axle nut and wheel hub. These are Grade 8 hardened and quarter inch thick and 1 per hub replaces both the thin oem washers and take the left to right play out of wheel hub which helps the wheel to stay tight and if oem washers are worn replacing these makes your new wheel bearings last longer!
