The color varies depending upon how sunlight is striking it also.
The color appears best when sunlight is shining on rather than through the piece and is due to the natural, untreated, chemical fluorescent properties of the amber.
Please see my feedback. I have been selling amber fossils for over 10 years on eBay and do not sell fake amber only genuine material from now extinct plant sources not glass or plastic embedded with present day inclusions.
Up for purchase is a giant, 216 gram, piece of rare, untreated amber from the region of Borneo Island, West Kalimantan, Indonesia with beautiful, deep blue color when natural sunlight is shining on it.
There are also regions of violet and dark green coloration as well.
Interestingly, the skin of the amber has evidence of being molten at one time and then cooling as seen by tunnel like formations on it. This is most likely due to geothermal activity, possibly even volcanoes at one time heating the amber to its melting point.
The piece has three windows polished while the remainder is in the rough as mined.
The color may vary depending upon how sunlight is striking it also.
The piece could be fashioned into a most unique piece of jewelry!
Studies are currently being done to determine the source plant(s) of this material. It is acquired from coal mining usually.
All pictures were taken under natural sunlight, no color enhancements.
Indonesian amber is a beautiful, all-natural amber from fossil trees that exhibits a rich range of colors.
Indonesian amber is a recent find. This amber possesses a beautiful, deep blue color that sometimes can appear as violet (purple).
I also offer blue and green amber from other areas of Indonesia.
The color can rival that of the finest Dominican and Chiapas (Mexican) blue amber.
The color appears best when light is shining on rather than through the piece and is due to the natural, untreated, chemical fluorescent properties of the amber.
It was mined from the earth in the Indonesian province of Sumatra or Sumatera (central region).
No treatment of any kind was done to this to enhance the color.
The known quantity of this material is considerably less than that of Dominican blue amber.
I may also have listed pieces of East Kalimantan Bunyu Island Blue amber, Sulawesi Blue amber, and West Papua Blue amber for sale which exhibits a unique
blue sometimes violet
color also.
A piece such as this would make a great addition to any fossil or gemstone collection.
The piece weighs 216 grams (1080 carats) and has a length of 76 mm, a width of 68 mm and 65 mm height.
NOTE: 25.4 mm is 1 inch.
Please see my Dominican amber and Burmese (Burmite) amber that has a variety of insect, botanical, and other types of inclusions along with my large pieces of fossiliferous Colombian copal at low starting bids.

Please note that the saltwater test to identify real from fake amber is not reliable. The saltwater test claims that real amber will float in saltwater while fake amber will sink.
However, many amber sources or even specimens will not float in saltwater as their botanical (plant) composition as well as fossil inclusions are such that they are more dense than saltwater and so sink. I do not sell fake amber. My feedback should help demonstrate this.
